Ploughing Championships 2013

Dairymaster had a great time at the 2013 National Ploughing Championships which included events such as the “Udder Race” and our CEO Dr Edmond Harty getting presented with the Newstalk Business Person of the Month Award. The weather was good throughout the week and nearly a quarter of a million visitors made their way to Stradbally to enjoy the atmosphere, events, competitions and take a look at the exhibition stands. With over 1,400 exhibitors vying for visitors’ attention Dairymaster attracted huge crowds.

The Dairymaster  “Udder Race” challenged visitors to see who could milk the most cows in the shortest time with all proceeds going to Pieta House. The challenge proved pretty irresistible and attracted huge numbers. The winner managed to clock up a time of 14 seconds equivalent to over 1000 cows per hour. An “udderly” brilliant result!!

Apart from testing their milking skills, visitors to the Dairymaster stand also got to see our range of hi tech, innovative products including Milking Equipment; Automated Feeding Systems; Manure Scrapers; Cow Health & Fertility Monitors and Milk Cooling Tanks.

Among those taking a look at how we are making farming more profitable, enjoyable and sustainable were Aidan Cotter, CEO of Bord Bia and Professor Gerry Boyle, Director of Teagasc.  Gerry also tried his hand at the Udder Race and revealed some impressive milking skills. It was also great to have Kieran O’ Dowd Macra, Tom Ryan Teagasc and Darragh McCullough participate in the race.

Elsewhere at the Championships our Head of Research and Innovation Dr John Daly did an interview with Agriland who titled him “Master of Dairy Innovations” after he explained the hi tech features of our Milk Cooling Tank.

All in all a fantastic three days for Dairymaster. Great atmosphere, great visitors and really great fun. We’re looking forward to next year already. If anybody has any ideas for the Dairymaster Competition for next year do let us know!
