    Nuffield Ireland Scholarship 2013


    Nuffield Ireland is an independent organisation that works to promote agriculture excellence by developing and supporting key influencers who want to make a positive impact on the Agriculture sector. They invest in these leaders of tomorrow through a scholarship programme. This year’s seven candidates have chosen topics that’s findings will have a positive impact on Irish Agriculture.

    Scholar Sean Coughlan intends to study the transfer from beef and sheep farming to dairying. His project will access the knowledge and capital required to be successful in dairy farming. “A Transfer to Dairying; the Knowledge and Capital Required”

    Scholar Mary Delaney area of study will be “Sustainability – the Carbon Challenge for Irish Dairying and Beef”. She will investigate the impact of the Carbon footprint challenge and the opportunities that exist in reducing their carbon footprint at farm level, milk and meat processor levels and retailer level in Ireland and compare these findings with other dairy markets worldwide.

    Scholar Joseph Leonard will investigate and develop Stress Management Systems in Farming in Ireland with specific emphasis on the education of young farmers and agri-industry personnel.

    Scholar Finola Mc Coy area of study is “Ní neart go cur le chéile-Building successful professional teams”. Finola’s study will focus at the benefits and opportunities for providing multi-disciplinary support and services for farmers.

    Scholar Tommy Moyles will study how to best optimizing returns from suckler production in Ireland, through the development of a measurement for efficiency. Tommy intends to assess the various methods used throughout the world to measure the efficiency of beef cow production and see what would best suit Irish systems of production.

    Scholar Sean O’Brien topic will focus on How to Educate, Identify and recruit new Board Members for Dairy Co-operatives in a post quota era.

    Over the next few months the scholars will travel the world for their research and will present their findings to Nuffield Ireland next Summer. Here at Dairymaster, we would like to wish all the candidates the very best of luck with their Scholarships.
