    National Dairy Council & Kerrygold Quality Milk Award 2013

    National Dairy Council & Kerrygold Quality Milk AwardThe search stared in March this year to find a dairy farmer worthy of the prestigious National Dairy Council & Kerrygold Quality Milk Award. The award is to recognise Dairy farmers who set the benchmarks  in improving standards and techniques which drive top quality milk production.

    This year Professor Paddy Wall, associate professor of Public Health at University College of Dublin; Dr Jack Kennedy, Dairy Editor at Irish Farmers Journal; and Dr David Gleeson, Milk Quality Research with Teagasc have the tough job of judging the contestants.

    The judges will visit each of final contestant’s dairy farms and take the following into consideration before they pick an overall winner;

    1. Milk quality results over the last year. The results will take into account total bacterial counts, somatic cell counts and milk composition.

    2. Milking facilities – Judges will rank each contestants farm on the appearance of the dairy milking parlour in terms of cleanliness, brightness, storage of detergents and milking procedures.

    3. Detailed analysis of the ICBF records and Farm milk records

    Dairymaster are honoured that Connor Molony from Tipperary, Edward Fitzgerald from Limerick and Thomas Mahon from Galway are among the finalist in this year’s competition.

    Connor installed a 20 unit Dairymaster Swiftflo Swing Parlour back in 2005. He also installed a number of automation features such as a Diversion Line and Automatic Cluster Removers in the parlour to ensure efficiency and maximise profits. Edward Fitzgerald from Kilmallock in Limerick installed a Dairymaster Intro parlour. Thomas Mahon from Kinvara in Galway installed a Dairymaster Parlour on his dairy farm. The overall Winner will be announced on Monday the 21st of October. Good luck to Connor from everyone in Dairymaster!
