Dairymaster’s Dr. Edmond Harty competing for World Entrepreneur of the Year

As you may know by now this coming Saturday, Dairymaster’s chief executive, our very own Dr Edmond Harty, will represent Ireland at the Ernst & Young 2013 World Entrepreneur of the Year competition in Monte Carlo.

We were delighted when he won the Ireland award and now, as winner of the 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year award for Ireland, he will be inducted into the prestigious World Entrepreneur of the Year hall of fame, where 49 country winners will vie for the World Entrepreneur of the Year title at a black-tie awards gala.

Entrepreneur of the Year for Ireland

Speaking to the Irish Times Dr. Harty said winning the Irish leg of the competition was great for business, “It has enhanced our profile and recognition with customers, staff, our families and in the wider Irish business community. It has opened doors for us domestically and internationally.”

You probably already know the story by now.  In 1998 Edmond, a mechanical engineer by profession, joined the family business while studying for his PhD in UCD. True to his roots, his PhD focused on the area of milking performance in dairy farming.

Since then Dairymaster has grown up quite a bit and is now a world leader in the development and manufacture of dairy farm equipment. From our base here in Kerry we export a wide range of dairy and farming products including milking equipment, automatic manure scrapers and feeders, milk cooling tanks and health and heat detection systems to more than 40 countries worldwide.

Also in conversation with the Irish Times Frank O’Keeffe, partner-in-charge of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, sang the praises not only of Edmond but also of the whole country, “Edmond Harty represents the very best that Ireland has to offer on a global stage, particularly in the agribusiness sector. Ireland is now regarded as a highly entrepreneurial country.”

    The Event and Judging

Speakers at the event range from World Wide Web inventor Sir Timothy Berners-Lee and Kofi Annan the former head of the UN to 2 former Formula One world champion Mika Häkkinen and Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.See the full list here.

The event is judged on some pretty tough criteria. Judges receive written information on the entrepreneurs prior to their arrival in Monte Carlo. They then meet with each other and the finalists several times throughout the weekend, and assess the candidates according to the following set of criteria:

    • Entrepreneurial spirit
    • Financial performance
    • Strategic direction
    • Global (or community) impact
    • Innovation
    • Personal integrity/influence

The World Entrepreneur Of The Year Winner will be announced at a black-tie awards gala on 8 June 2013, following the induction of all Entrepreneur Of The Year country winners into the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Hall of Fame.

    Come on Ireland

We want to wish Edmond all the best for Saturday and are so proud that Dairymaster are representing Irish agribusiness and the Irish dairy industry in the competition. So with that….  Come on Ireland!
